Six Pixels of Separation-Highly Recommended

When I founded NxtGen Marketing, I knew very little about how to actually code a website.  Actually I never had any intention of building websites, I had planned on helping small businesses to use the power of the internet to strengthen their marketing plan.  After only a few weeks, I came to realize that to help small businesses to succeed I needed to start at the basis for every good internet marketing plan, a website.  Even though I had earned a bachelors degree and a MBA, I went back to community to college to begin my training in web development.  As I have stated in an earlier post Education Goes A Long Way, I am a big believer in never stop working to educate yourself.  This is especially true with social media, since it is so new and is changing on a daily basis.  I went to my local bookstore a few weeks ago looking for a new book to read, and came across Mitch Joel’s “Six Pixels of Separation”.

Six Pixels of Separation is the best book that I have read so far on social media.  Many of the past books I have read are written at a very introductory level, that tells you how to set up your accounts, and then gives you very basic ideas of what you can do with this platform.  This book is written from the point of view of a business owner and entrepreneur.  The real world examples will really start to make you think about how to change your business for the better.  The author  Mitch Joel is the president of Twist Image is a digital marketing agency that has pioneered working in social media for their clients.  They are best known for their blog and podcast with the same name “Six Pixels of Separation“.  What got me really excited while I was reading the book, was not only that it made me think about my business and how I can better help my clients, but Mitch Joel also gives his opinion on where he thinks the technology is going.  This book is a very easy read and is cut up into small chunks for easy reading in between meetings, or while grabbing a quick lunch.  I highly recomend anyone who is interested in learning more about social media and how it can help grow your business read ”Six Pixels of Separation”
